AMC – 900 Planning for Multidisciplinary Megaprojects

AMC – 900 Planning for Multidisciplinary Megaprojects

Multidisciplinary megaprojects consist of multiple contracts, work packages, project phases, and executing organizations, each of which manages its own detailed schedule. Engineering, procurement, production, logistics, civil works, installation, commissioning, and handover often follow separate schedules, while the most important milestones and dependencies extend beyond the boundaries of these schedules. Without an integrated structure, changes in one discipline can have major consequences for other project components, without these consequences becoming apparent in a timely manner.

This masterclass demonstrates how multiple schedules in Oracle Primavera Cloud can be consolidated into a single, manageable planning landscape. The focus is on designing a clear planning model, establishing dependencies between projects and work packages, and creating reliable management information for project management and project control.

Why this master class?

In large and complex projects, individual schedules often prove useful at the local level but fail to provide sufficient cohesion when viewed collectively. Different parties use their own structures, calendars, progress rules, levels of detail, and reporting intervals. As a result, critical interfaces may be overlooked, milestones may be reported inconsistently, and delays from suppliers or disciplines may not be reflected in the overall forecast until much later.

This masterclass helps organizations establish agreements regarding planning governance, planning levels, coding, interfaces, and updates. Participants learn how to maintain local accountability while simultaneously building a comprehensive overview that makes overlaps, handoffs, delays, and impacts on project milestones visible earlier.

What will you learn?

The masterclass takes an in-depth look at designing a planning architecture in which plans from multiple disciplines, contracts, and suppliers are seamlessly integrated in a manageable way. Participants explore how shared milestones, interproject relationships, interface activities, codes, calendars, and consistent Work Breakdown Structures contribute to reliable integrated planning. The session discusses how indicators such as milestone deviations, float consumption, open interfaces, changes to the critical path, and discrepancies between local and integrated forecast dates reveal common problems. Examples include missing links between engineering and procurement, delivery without coordination with installation, differing status dates, conflicting calendars, duplicated scope, loose ends, and schedules with a level of detail that is insufficiently aligned. Attention is also given to update cycles, ownership of relationships, change management, and the balance between central planning governance and the responsibility of individual disciplines and contracting parties.

In-house and Customized Training Only

This masterclass is offered exclusively as a customized in-company program. The content is tailored to your organization’s project structure, contract strategy, planning levels, governance, and interface issues. Oracle Primavera Cloud is used during the masterclass to illustrate the theoretical and practical examples. The training can be aligned with how your organization has set up—or plans to set up—projects, work packages, WBS structures, codes, milestones, and interdependencies in OPC.
