AMC – 700: From Planning to Project Management
AMC – 700: From Planning to Project Management
Virtually every project has a schedule, but only a limited number of organizations actually use that schedule as a management tool. In many projects, management still relies on status updates, ad hoc progress reports, and gut feelings. As a result, risks often only become apparent when corrective measures have become costly or even impossible.
This masterclass demonstrates how a schedule can evolve from an operational tool for planners into a management tool for project managers, project control managers, and senior management. Participants will learn what information is truly important for project management and how scheduling information can be translated into concrete management decisions.
Why this master class?
Projects that fall behind schedule often show warning signs months in advance. However, these signs are not always recognized or interpreted correctly. Many organizations focus primarily on the current status of activities, while the true value of planning lies in predicting future performance and identifying risks in a timely manner.
This master class helps participants analyze schedules more effectively, identify deviations earlier, and make decisions with greater confidence regarding priorities, corrective actions, and project objectives.
What will you learn?
This masterclass provides an in-depth look at how planning information can be used to predict future project performance. Participants will learn how critical paths evolve over the course of a project, how float can disappear unnoticed, and why seemingly sound plans can still contain significant risks. Attention is given to indicators such as float consumption, milestone variance, critical path length, progress relative to the baseline, and forecast completion dates. These indicators help identify impending delays, shifting critical paths, unrealistic recovery plans, insufficient detail, loose ends, and hidden dependencies between disciplines, suppliers, and contractors. Participants also learn to distinguish between a schedule that has been updated for administrative purposes and one that is sufficiently reliable to serve as the basis for management decisions.
